eGFR Calculator
Estimate kidney filtration using the 2021 CKD-EPI creatinine equation without the race coefficient. Designed for adults aged 18 years and older.

CKD Staging by eGFR
| Stage | eGFR | Category | General Interpretation |
|---|---|---|---|
| G1 | ≥90 | Normal / High | Usually requires another marker of kidney damage to establish CKD. |
| G2 | 60–89 | Mildly decreased | May occur without CKD, particularly when no other kidney-damage markers are present. |
| G3a | 45–59 | Mild–moderate decrease | Reduced kidney filtration; clinical assessment and monitoring are important. |
| G3b | 30–44 | Moderate–severe decrease | More significant reduction in kidney function. |
| G4 | 15–29 | Severely decreased | Severe reduction in kidney function; specialist assessment is commonly required. |
| G5 | <15 | Kidney failure | Severe kidney dysfunction requiring specialist management. |
eGFR Calculator – Frequently Asked Questions
Which equation does this calculator use?
This calculator uses the 2021 CKD-EPI creatinine equation, which does not include a race coefficient.
What is a normal eGFR?
An eGFR of 90 mL/min/1.73m² or higher is generally categorized as G1, although eGFR normally declines with age.
Does eGFR below 60 mean CKD?
A persistently reduced eGFR below 60 for at least three months is generally consistent with CKD, when appropriately confirmed.
Can eGFR diagnose CKD from one test?
Not necessarily. CKD is defined by abnormalities of kidney structure or function that persist for at least three months.
Is this calculator for children?
No. This calculator is intended for adults aged 18 years and older. Pediatric GFR estimation uses different equations.
Does eGFR change with creatinine?
Yes. Serum creatinine is one of the principal variables used to estimate GFR. Age and sex are also incorporated into the equation.
